Local Picks - Things To Do in Zurich

Our Local Picks for things to do in Zurich come straight from the people who call this city home. We’re not relying on algorithms or paid promotions, these are suggestions curated by Zurich locals who know the city’s rhythms, quirks, and the little details that guide you to more meaningful experiences.

You’ll find recommendations that reflect the city throughout the year, from wandering the old town’s quiet corners in autumn to grabbing a late-evening drink at one of the small bars in Kreis 4. One insider tip: skip the main boat tour and instead grab a waterbike at Zürichsee when the weather is good; it’s a surprisingly fun way to see the city from a new angle and usually less crowded. These picks come from people who genuinely live here, so you can trust they’re worth your time.

Local tip from Zurich

If you want to experience a truly local side of Zurich, try spending an afternoon exploring the district of Wiedikon. It’s just a short tram ride away from the old town, and you’ll find a nice mix of bakeries, secondhand shops, and small galleries that don’t usually show up in guidebooks. In late spring, the greenery along Sihl river is a quiet place to picnic and people-watch. Stop by Helvetiaplatz on a Wednesday or Saturday to discover the local market stalls selling regional produce and baked goods. It’s a small taste of everyday Swiss life that visitors often miss.
