Description
Depart Zurich and travel towards the Swiss-German border through a scenic wine-growing region featuring charming farming villages. Visit the medieval Schloss Laufen castle adjacent to the Rhine Falls, Europe's biggest waterfall. Take the panoramic lift to view around 700,000 liters of water plunging per second into the basin below.
An optional boat ride from April to October allows an up-close experience of the falls. The tour continues to Schaffhausen, home to the Munot Fortress, then proceeds through rolling vineyards and farmland to Stein am Rhein.
In Stein am Rhein, enjoy a guided stroll through the well-preserved old town. See medieval architecture including St. George's Abbey, half-timbered houses, city gates, towers, the Town Hall, and the Armory, noted for their detailed frescoes and wooden window frames.
