Description

The Emmentaler Schaukäserei offers an immersive tour called the Königsweg, located in the heart of Switzerland’s Emmental region. This multisensory journey reveals the origins and craftsmanship behind authentic Emmentaler AOP cheese through a series of rooms featuring sound, video, and historical displays.

Visitors walk through recreated production spaces and learn how Alpine farming traditions, natural ingredients, and ageing techniques combine to create Emmentaler’s distinctive holes and flavors. The tour includes atmospheric settings with the scent of fresh milk and sounds of traditional dairy tools, offering a vivid glimpse into the cheese’s heritage.

The exhibition explains the importance of traditional AOP quality rules and explores how Emmental cheese became a symbol of Swiss culture. An optional cheese tasting concludes the visit.

The Königsweg is designed for all ages, with engaging storytelling elements for children and detailed cultural insights for adults. Before or after the tour, visitors can also watch live cheesemaking in the historic Stöckli (by prior registration), visit farm animals, shop for regional products, and relax in the onsite restaurant or terrace with views of the surrounding hills.
